Flying into the CloudBackup

Product Review - Online Backup - OPENRSM CloudBackup

What is it:

OPENRSM CloudBackup is a service that lets you store files and backup data securely to a nearly unlimited backup to internet vault. Unlike competitors, OPENRSM has CloudBackup engineered to scale from minimal to massive with no restrictions. You pay a flat fee (which get's you a BIG datastore) and only pay extra for the actual storage you use in excess of that.  It works the same on Windows, MAC, and Linux systems as well.

You can mount the CloudBackup volume as a mapped drive or with network neighborhood.), over WebDav or via the local http server. CloudBackups local cache (1GB default) that allows most operations to be instantaneous with all changes made in the background. The builtin backup utility works well and previous versions are kept if desired. This makes CloudBackup work for backup as well as a remote filesystem since it works with native tools like rsync, robocopy, etc.  Block level incremental backup is supported through CloudBackup.

Key Features:

  • Facilitates worry-free, automatic backups
  • Keeps your data safe
  • Unlimited storage at per GB pricing. No complex math. No maximum limits
  • Supports multiple systems
  • Offers backup reporting to keep you informed
  • Works just like a disk
  • Provides online backup and storage for every computer you own.  Servers, Desktops, Notebooks

Who it helps:

Due to the power of OPENRSM CloudBackup, you can use it as a VPN Drive and more (in addition to online backup. The setup is easy and the interface is both powerful and simple (way better than the competition). And CloudBackup delivers ease of use for all levels of users that need safe, secure backup (and that's everyone, isn't it) or share files remotely without being restricted like others do.  Or, like me... BOTH. For example you'll have the full context menu available on the mapped drive, and it works with regular copy applications and any file managers. You can set it, forget it, and let the scheduler backup all changed files.

Good Features:

Set it and forget it backups. Set up the automatic backup and you no longer have to worry about disk failures or data safety. Minimal bandwith use. Only changed bytes are updated and that makes CloudBackup extremely bandwidth efficient.  So bandwidth use is limited after the first backup. Fine grained control that's easy to manage. Options for keeping previous versions, upload bandwidth use, previewing backups, and detailed logs. You can get dirty if you want but I hardly ever needed to access the manual. Works with your system and applications. The network drive can be used like any other local volume... Just unlimited in size. I use QuickBooks, AbiWord, and other software to use the network drive and it's perfect. It's wonderful when you set your application backups to default to it, etc., to use the Network Drive. Whether you have Linux, MAC, or Windows makes no difference... CloudBackup just works.

Possible Concerns:

Depends on your internet connection. Inherent to CloudBackup is your broadband connection. If you have restriced use limits on your broadband connection then your first backup might push it.But, you can control both speed and backup times to your own schedule. But it's a mute point because of the bandwidth controls and efficient use of the bandwidth you allow. It has to be said I guess I'm always open to do nearly the same for cheaper or free. But, Cloudbackup has the killer combination of highly advanced features and low cost.

Why I reccomend it:

It's the best solution for remote access to your documents, photos, and files while providing painless backup. Together, it's like the killer app of all time.  Add in the flexibility and I can recommend this with no qualms.  Paying a small monthly fee to have his peace of mind is worth it for me.

How it Stacks Up:

  • OPENRSM CloudBackup has more space and reliability than a local backup.
  • Files are still available for all programs with full capability unlike other solutions.
  • The backup to internet functionality works as good as local backup solutions.
  • You can still use your own sync or backup software if you want. But you don't really need to as you can automatically backup as frequently as 5 minute up to weekly intervals.

The Last Word

CloudBackup is an inexpensive, flexible, powerful, and reliable data storage solution which can be used for many purposes.  I have to recommend it except if you have unreasonable external restrictions on your connection, or because you don't need to backup data (and if you don't need to backup, you dont' have a computer so your not able to read this anyway). Other services that do less for less money, but I havn't found anything like that. CloudBackup is a rock solid way to make life simpler for my home and work computers.
